Stephen Burke3- picStephen is a screenwriter and director. His first novel The Good Italian sold to Hodder in a two book deal. It is set in 1935 in Eritrea when it was an Italian Colony and tells the story of Enzo, a shy Italian man who is the harbour master in Massawa. His life is transformed when he starts to have a relationship with his Eritrean maid, Aatifa. Then the Italian government introduces a law forbidding all Italian men from having relationships with native women. The book was short-listed for the Romantic Novel of the Year Award and the Historical Writers Association Debut Fiction award. His new novel, The Reluctant Contact, publishes in 2017.
