David Almond

DavidAlmondDavid’s bestselling first novel, Skellig, won the Carnegie Medal and Whitbread Children’s Award. The Fire-Eaters won the Whitbread, the Smarties Gold Award and was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal. He won the Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2010. My Name is Mina, a companion story to Skellig,  told from Mina’s point of view, was published in 2010, to rave reviews.  The True Tale of the Monster Billy Dean, published in adult and young adult editions, is his latest novel.

We are delighted that David was announced on 7 November as this year’s recipient of the Eleanor Farjeon Award, which is given to a person or organisation for distinguished service to the world of children’s books.  Previous winners include Philip Pullman, Jacqueline Wilson and Malorie Blackman.
