Professor of History at Queen Mary College London, Colin Jones is President of the Royal Historical Society and Officier Dans L’Ordre de Palmes Academique. He has published extensively on 18th Century France. He wrote The Great Nation France 1715-99 for Penguin Press. Cambridge University Press publish his illustrated History of France. He wrote the accompanying book on the National Gallery exhibition on Madame de Pompadour. Penguin Press and Viking US published his sweeping and vivid Paris -A History, which has won the Edith Macleod Prize, to excellent reviews. He now plans Thermidor -The Day the Terror Ended and has just delivered The Smile in Eighteenth Century France to OUP.
